After temporarily removing the V8 engine from the Defender lineup in India, Jaguar Land Rover has brought it back. The Defender V8 now starts from Rs 1.39 crore (ex-showroom) and comes in three body forms: 90, 110, and 130. The whole pricing list is not yet available.
There are new X-Dynamic HSE and X trims, but the V8 engine in the higher 518 hp spec has been withdrawn from the entire lineup.
Only the fully outfitted Defenders have had the V8 engine. JLR is now offering this engine in two trims: X-Dynamic HSE and X. The 5.0-litre V8, which has 424 hp and 610 Nm of torque, is still available in all three body styles: 90, 110, and 130. The standard setup for the Defender V8 consists of a Terrain Response system and electronic air suspension. It sits on 20-inch wheels with all-terrain tyres.
Though it has since been retired, the Defender was also available in a higher 518 hp grade with the same 5.0-litre V8 engine in 2024. It does, however, carry on the choice of a 2.0-litre petrol engine, only found in the 110 body style in the X-Dynamic HSE grade. Features of the 2025 Defender: 3.0-litre diesel engine available across all three body types and in three trims: X-Dynamic HSE, X and Sedona Edition.
The Defender boasts some interesting features, including an 11.4-inch touchscreen, a digital driver’s display, programmable ambient lighting, 360-degree cameras and a panoramic sunroof. 14-way motorised, heated and cooled front seats with memory function also abound. Along with numerous other packages with bundled features like the Cold Climate, Advanced Off-Road and Family Comfort Packs, the optional extras comprise a Meridian Sound System, a front centre console refrigerator compartment and a soft close tailgate.
The Defender 130 offers 7- and 8-seater layouts in 2+2+3 and 2+3+3 configurations, respectively. The former features winged headrests and middle-row captain seats with ventilation capability.
