First midsize SUV from Toyota Kirloskar Motor, the Toyota Urban Cruiser Hyryder has become somewhat well-known in the Indian automotive scene. Recently crossing the 100,000,000 sales mark, this sporty SUV launched in September 2022 is the most sold rebadged product Toyota has ever produced in India. The Hyryder, with 36,220 units sold in just the first seven months of FY2025 (April-October 2024), showed a noteworthy 52% year-on-year increase, therefore attesting to customer popularity.
With this feat, the Hyryder becomes the second Maruti-rebadged car to reach the 100,000-unit mark, following the Toyota Glanza. Claiming 27.97 km/l, the SUV gains from a strong hybrid petrol engine renowned for great fuel economy. This helps it to be among the most fuel-efficient cars in its class, therefore closing the difference between conventional petrol and electric cars.
Just in time for the Christmas season, Toyota has deliberately added a unique Hyryder Festival Limited Edition model to October 2024. This limited-edition model increases its value offering for consumers including supplementary extras valued up to ₹50,817. Available in the mid-spec G and top-spec V trims, priced between ₹14.49 lakh and ₹20 lakh.
Though relatively late in entering the competitive midsize SUV market, the Hyryder has effectively established its niche challenging well-known vehicles as the Hyundai Creta, Kia Seltos, and Maruti Grand Vitara. With 24% of its utility vehicle sales in April-October 2024, the Hyryder’s strong sales performance greatly helps to explain TKM’s general increase. The success of this SUV emphasizes even further Toyota’s approach of using rebadged models in cooperation with Maruti Suzuki, with models like the Glanza, Rumion, and the new Taisor enhancing its lineup.
