
Kia India has expanded the automatic lineup of the Kia Sonet compact SUV. The company has introduced new diesel automatic and turbo petrol automatic variants to attract more buyers. This strategy is similar to the approach used by the Kia Seltos, which offers multiple powertrain and variant options.With the latest update, the diesel automatic variant now starts at Rs 9.77 lakh (ex-showroom). The turbo petrol automatic version begins at Rs 9.89 lakh (ex-showroom). The move brings automatic convenience to a wider price range, much like the flexible variant lineup seen in the Kia Seltos.
New Diesel Automatic Variants
Kia has launched four new diesel automatic variants in the Sonet range. These include HTE (O), HTK (O), HTK+, and HTK+ (O).The HTE (O) diesel automatic variant is priced at Rs 9.77 lakh, ex-showroom. The HTK (O) variant costs Rs 10.72 lakh, ex-showroom. The HTK+ variant is priced at Rs 11.08 lakh, ex-showroom, while the HTK+ (O) variant is available at Rs 11.56 lakh, ex-showroom.By expanding the availability of automatic transmissions in lower trims, Kia is following a strategy similar to the Kia Seltos, which offers a wide choice of engines and transmissions to buyers.
New Turbo Petrol Automatic Variants
Kia has also introduced two new turbo petrol automatic trims. The HTK (O) turbo petrol DCT variant is priced at Rs 9.89 lakh, ex-showroom. The higher HTK+ (O) turbo petrol DCT variant costs Rs 10.83 lakh, ex-showroom.The turbo petrol engine is paired with a 7-speed dual-clutch transmission. This gearbox provides smoother shifts and quicker acceleration. Similar performance-focused gearbox options are also available in the Kia Seltos lineup.
Engine Options
The Sonet continues to offer three engine choices. Buyers can choose between a 1.2-litre naturally aspirated petrol engine, a 1.0-litre three-cylinder turbo petrol engine, and a 1.5-litre turbo diesel engine.The turbo petrol engine produces 120 PS of power and 172 Nm of peak torque. It is available with an iMT gearbox and a 7-speed DCT automatic option.The diesel engine generates 115 PS of power and 250 Nm of peak torque. It comes with both manual and automatic transmissions. Kia also follows a similar multi-engine approach in the Kia Seltos to offer more choices to customers.
Features and Technology
The SUV comes with several premium features. It offers electrically adjustable seats and an electric sunroof. The cabin also includes ventilated seats and leatherette upholstery.The dashboard features a large touchscreen infotainment system and a fully digital instrument cluster. The vehicle also supports more than 70 connected car features.Kia has equipped the SUV with 10 Level-1 ADAS features. In addition, it offers 15 standard safety features across the range. Many of these technology features are similar to those offered in the Kia Seltos, which is known for its tech-rich cabin.
New Colour Option
Kia has also added a new exterior shade to the lineup. The Sonet now comes with a fresh Magma Red colour option.This new shade enhances the sporty appearance of the SUV and expands the available colour choices. The company has used a similar colour update strategy for the Kia Seltos in recent updates.
Price Range

The Kia Sonet is now priced from Rs 7.30 lakh, ex-showroom. The top variants go up to Rs 14 lakh, ex-showroom.With the introduction of more automatic variants, Kia aims to attract urban buyers looking for convenience and performance. This expansion also reflects the company’s broader SUV strategy that has already proven successful with the Kia Seltos in India.
