Hyundai is evaluating customer interest even though it does not yet have any intentions to introduce the Staria.

Friday, January 17, Hyundai displayed the Staria luxury electric vehicle (EV) at Auto Expo 2025 Although the company does not yet have any imminent intentions to introduce it in India, it is using the event to evaluate customer demand. Available for international markets since 2021, the Staria is a big, almost van-like premium MPV. It features several sitting arrangements, even four rows for up to eleven persons. But the car on show at the Auto Expo was a more upscale 7-seater variant.

  • The Staria debuted at the Auto Expo and gets a 7-seater arrangement, including second-row captain’s chairs.
  • The underpinnings of the Staria are shared with the Kia Carnival MPV

Though a low beltline with a big glasshouse gives it a unique appearance, the Staria extends the tape at over 5.2 meters and is shaped like a standard people mover. The face features a sweeping form, with a black contrasting finish on the bumper housing a big mesh grille and rectangular pixel headlights. Usually in MPV style, the profile is slab-sided; at the back, it features huge vertical tail-lamps, once more using pixel detailing similar to the front.

Inside, the Staria has a vertically oriented primary touchscreen beneath which is a panel with lots of physical buttons. Though it is an ICE-powered car, the cabin also features a free-standing instrument cluster, a four-spoke steering wheel, and a level floor, therefore facilitating free movement within. The second-row captain’s chairs, which are motorized and feature a ventilation system, really shine, though. There is a bench arrangement for the third-row seats.

The Kia Carnival, currently on sale in India, is the foundation for the Staria. Globally, it comes with a variety of petrol and diesel engines; the one on display at the Auto Expo features a 3.5-litre V6 engine generating 272 hp and 331 Nm of torque. Driving the front wheels, the engine couples to an 8-speed automated gearbox.

Pricing beginning at Rs 17.99 lakh (ex-showroom), Hyundai has also debuted the Creta Electric at the Auto Expo.
