Kia Syros Makes A Worldwide Premiere

Kia Syros

Officially starting on January 3, bookings will be published in February with rates.

After several hints, Kia launched the all-new Syros small SUV today in India. Following the Sonet, the Syros is Kia’s second entry in the sub-4-meter range, therefore addressing a major disadvantage of the latter – rear-seat capacity. Currently running petrol and diesel engines, it gets an all-new design language seen on bigger Kia products such as the EV9. An all-electric option will eventually join the line-up.

  • Gets Level 2 ADAS suite, panoramic sunroof, reclining back seats
  • Available with 1.5-litre diesel engines and 1.0-litre turbo-petrol engines

Kia Syros’ Outside Design

Visually, Syros finds inspiration in worldwide Kia EVs including the EV9 and EV3. The SUV features vertically stacked headlamps at the bumper edge; the nose is boxy and straight. Its three LED projector modules feature a clear drop-down LED daytime running lamp element. Like with EVs, the upper part of the nose is sealed off; the air intakes are placed in the blacked-out section below, which gets a contrasting silver accent.

Kia Syros Front

The Syros stands out mostly for its tallboy design, which shows on its profile. Furthermore reminiscent of the Skoda Yeti is the window line created the blacked-out A-, C- and D-pillars using body-coloured B-pillars. Over the wheel arches, you also get thick plastic cladding; flush-fitting door handles; a unique kink in the window line at the back; and a 3-petal design for the alloy wheels—which run up to 17-inches on top trim. The two-tone black and silver finish for the rear bumper surrounds the high-mounted L-shaped tail-lamps at the rear windscreen.

Kia Syros Size And Colour Schemes

Dimensionally, the Syros has a 2,550mm wheelbase, 3,995mm in length, 1,800mm in width, 1,665mm in height. This results in a 10mm width and a 55mm height difference from the Sonet, and a 50mm wheelbase change as well. Up from the Sonet’s 385 litres, the boot capacity is rated at 465 litres. According to Kia, the taller boy design and longer wheelbase release more inside the room.

Kia has eight colour choices for the Syros: Frost Blue, Pewter Olive, Aurora Black Pearl, Intense Red, Gravity Grey, Imperial Blue, Sparkling Silver and Glacier White Pearl.

Kia Syros From Within

With the twin 12.3-inch displays for the infotainment and instrument cluster, which, combined with the 5-inch screen for the climate control system comprise a 30-inch display claims Kia, the Syros gets an all-new dashboard that is a clear step up from the Sonet. Inspired the EV3, a redesigned two-spoke steering wheel boasts a neatly stacked centre console and a wireless charging pad. Along with beautifully hidden AC vents and horizontally flowing lines enhanced ambient lighting, the dashboard features a band of physical switches for the HVAC controls.

Inside Kia Syros

Wireless Android Auto and Apple CarPlay, OTA updates for the infotainment system, in-car connectivity tech, all four ventilated seats, reclining and sliding second-row seats with centre armrest and a 60:40 split-folding function, powered driver’s seat, an 8-speaker Harman Kardon sound system, dual-pane panoramic sunroof, electronic parking brake, six airbags, front and rear parking sensors, 360-degree camera and Level 2 ADAS suite.

Kia Syros’s Engine And Transmission Specifications

Under the hood, the Syros has two engine options: a 116hp, 250Nm 1.5-litre diesel coupled to either a 6-speed manual or a 6-speed torque converter automatic; a 120hp, 172Nm 1.0-litre turbo-petrol with either a 6-speed manual or a 7-speed DCT. Higher-spec automatic variants should be especially highlighted as they will get paddle shifters. One of the few SUVs with sub-4 meters still with a diesel engine choice is the Syros.

The Syros will go on sale in four trims: HTK, HTK (O), HTK+, HTX, HTX+ and HTX+(O). Though the top-spec HTX+ (O) will feature all the gear described above, the firm has not yet revealed which featres will be available on which trim.

Kia Syros Estimated Pricing And Competitors

Expecting prices for the new Syros in February, Kia will compete with other small SUVs, including the Hyundai Venue, Tata Nexon, Mahindra XUV 3XO, Maruti Brezza, and the forthcoming Skoda Kylaq. Although bookings begin on January 3, Kia has said deliveries would start in early February. It is estimated to cost roughly Rs 1 lakh more than a comparable Sonet model, so it will also overlap with the Seltos. Still, Kia wants a large feature list and a better rear-seat experience to differentiate it from its rivals.
