BMW’s flagship sedan and its electric counterpart get major exterior and interior revisions, with the 7 Series gaining more power and the i7 receiving improved performance and range.
2026 BMW 7 Series, i7 Facelift: Price and Variants
BMW has launched the 2026 7 Series and i7 facelift in India, more than three and a half years after the current-generation 7 Series was introduced here. The mid-life update brings revised styling, a substantially redesigned cabin and powertrain upgrades to both flagship models.
The BMW 7 Series 740 is priced at ₹1.95 crore, while the i7 eDrive50 is also priced at ₹1.95 crore. The range-topping i7 M70 xDrive costs ₹2.65 crore (all prices, ex-showroom).
The 7 Series 740 and i7 eDrive50 will be locally assembled at BMW’s Chennai plant, while the M70 xDrive will be imported as a fully built unit.
BMW 7 Series, i7 Facelift: Exterior Design
The facelift brings the biggest visual changes to the front end of both models. The 7 Series now has a more upright and imposing appearance, with revised split headlamps, slimmer DRLs and redesigned vertical air intakes. The kidney grille has been squared off with horizontal slats, while its illuminated surround has been retained. The lower air dam is also wider.
The 7 Series gets new 20-inch alloy wheels as standard, with 22-inch wheels available as an option. Revised side skirts, wider LED tail-lamps and a smoother rear bumper complete the exterior changes.
The i7 follows the same design direction, with a squared-off illuminated grille, revised LED headlights and a new front bumper. It also gets new alloy wheel designs, while the rear features smoked tail-lamps and redesigned tailgate and bumper. The M70 xDrive gets a larger front air intake, M badges on the Hofmeister kink and rear lights, and 21-inch wheels.
BMW 7 Series, i7 Facelift: New Interior
The biggest changes are inside. Both models adopt BMW’s latest cabin design inspired by its Neue Klasse models. The dashboard features a 17.9-inch rhomboidal infotainment touchscreen, a 14.6-inch passenger display and BMW’s full-width Panoramic Vision projection at the base of the windscreen. A new four-spoke steering wheel has also been introduced.
The centre console has been redesigned with more storage, fewer physical buttons and a new cylindrical rotary drive selector.
Equipment on the 7 Series includes powered doors, powered heated, ventilated and massaging seats, Boss Mode, Level 2 ADAS, wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, over-the-air updates and an 18-speaker Bowers & Wilkins surround sound system.
The i7 retains the 31.3-inch 8K Theatre Screen, Bowers & Wilkins sound system with Dolby Atmos, powered doors, powered ottomans and Level 2 ADAS. Its panoramic glass roof can also be equipped with more than 40 embedded LEDs that synchronise with the ambient lighting.
BMW 7 Series Facelift: Engine and Performance
The India-spec 7 Series is now available only in 740 petrol guise, with BMW dropping the 740d diesel variant. The 740 continues with a 3.0-litre direct-injection turbocharged straight-six paired with a 48-volt mild-hybrid system.
Internal upgrades have increased output to 400hp and 540Nm, up by 19hp and 20Nm over the outgoing model. An eight-speed torque-converter automatic gearbox sends power to the rear wheels.
BMW claims a 0-100kph time of 5.4sec, while top speed is electronically limited to 250kph. Rear-wheel steering and adaptive suspension continue to be offered.
BMW i7 Facelift: Powertrain and Range
The electric i7 is available in eDrive50 and M70 xDrive forms.
BMW i7 eDrive50
The rear-wheel-drive i7 eDrive50 produces 455hp and 600Nm and uses a 112.5kWh battery pack. It can accelerate from 0-100kph in 5.5sec and has a top speed of 210kph. Its claimed WLTP range is 728km, an increase of 125km over the outgoing model.
BMW i7 M70 xDrive
The range-topping i7 M70 xDrive uses all-wheel drive and produces 680hp. Torque output is rated at 1,015Nm in Sport mode and rises to 1,100Nm with Sport Boost. It can complete the 0-100kph sprint in 3.8sec and has a top speed of 250kph. Its claimed range stands at 686km WLTP.
BMW i7 Facelift: Charging and Battery
Both variants support 250kW DC fast charging, with a claimed 10-80 percent charging time of 28 minutes. BMW says a 10-minute charging session can add up to 235km of range. A 22kW AC charger takes around six hours to charge the battery from 0-100 percent. Both versions come with a complimentary wallbox charger and installation.
2026 BMW 7 Series vs Mercedes-Benz S-Class
The 7 Series facelift is ₹10 lakh more expensive than the outgoing model, which was priced at ₹1.85 crore. It continues to rival the Mercedes-Benz S-Class, priced between ₹2.20 crore and ₹2.38 crore.
The local assembly of the 740 and i7 eDrive50 should also allow BMW to maintain a more competitive positioning for its flagship models, while the fully imported M70 xDrive remains the performance-focused top-end offering.
