JSW MG Motor India has expanded its Hector portfolio with the launch of the new Hector Tomahawk in both electric and plug-in hybrid (PHEV) versions. The Hector Tomahawk EV is priced from Rs 19.49 lakh, while the PHEV starts at Rs 25.69 lakh. These are introductory ex-showroom prices for the complete vehicle.
The company is also introducing a Battery-as-a-Service (BaaS) ownership option for a limited number of bookings. This scheme reduces the initial vehicle price by separating the battery cost and recovering it through a usage-based rental charge.
Hector Tomahawk BaaS Prices and Charging Costs
Under the BaaS programme, the Hector Tomahawk EV starts at Rs 13.99 lakh, with a battery rental of Rs 4.90 per kilometre. The PHEV is available from Rs 21.79 lakh under the programme, with a usage charge of Rs 3.20 per kilometre. Electricity and petrol expenses are separate.
The BaaS model is designed to reduce the upfront purchase price, although buyers should consider their expected annual driving distance and charging or fuel costs before choosing between the standard and BaaS ownership models.
Hector Tomahawk EV: Battery, Range and Performance
The electric version uses a 69.2kWh battery pack and has a claimed range of 517km on a single charge. JSW MG has not specified the certification cycle used for this range figure.
The electric motor develops 150kW of power and 310Nm of torque. The SUV can accelerate from 0-100kph in a claimed 8.2 seconds.
DC fast charging is supported at up to 90kW, allowing the battery to charge from 30 to 80 percent in around 35 minutes. The SUV can also be charged at home using a 7.4kW AC charging system.
Vehicle-to-Home and Vehicle-to-Load Technology
JSW MG says the Hector Tomahawk EV is India’s first car to feature vehicle-to-home (V2H) technology. The system can use energy stored in the vehicle’s battery to power selected household lights and appliances during a power outage.
The EV also supports vehicle-to-load (V2L) functionality, allowing electrical devices to draw power from the vehicle.
According to the company, the battery has completed more than 2,000 bench tests and 490 whole-vehicle validation tests. These evaluations covered conditions including high temperatures, extreme cold and high-altitude operation.
Hector Tomahawk PHEV: Electric Range and Hybrid Powertrain
The Hector Tomahawk PHEV combines a 20.5kWh battery with a 1.5-litre petrol engine developed specifically for hybrid applications. The engine has a claimed thermal efficiency of 43.2 percent.
The PHEV can travel more than 115km using electric power alone. With a fully charged battery and a full fuel tank, the company claims a combined range of more than 1,100km.
Total powertrain output is rated at 148kW, while the 0-100kph acceleration time is claimed to be under nine seconds.
Hector Tomahawk PHEV Fuel-Efficiency Claims
JSW MG says drivers covering around 100-150km per day could achieve fuel efficiency of more than 50kpl if most of their daily travel is completed using electric power.
For owners who charge the vehicle two or three times a week, the company estimates efficiency of around 22-25kpl. Actual results will vary depending on charging frequency, driving conditions, traffic, speed and the proportion of distance covered using the battery.
The claimed figures also exclude the electricity consumed during charging, so the actual running cost will depend on local electricity and fuel prices.
Four Hybrid Driving Modes
The Hector Tomahawk PHEV uses what JSW MG calls an electromagnetic dedicated hybrid transmission. The electronic clutch can change between operating modes in 0.1 seconds.
The system automatically selects among pure-electric, series-hybrid, parallel-hybrid and engine-direct modes depending on factors such as vehicle speed, accelerator input, battery charge and road conditions.
In series-hybrid mode, the petrol engine generates electricity while the electric motor drives the wheels. Parallel-hybrid mode combines engine and motor output, while engine-direct mode allows the petrol engine to drive the wheels directly, particularly at highway speeds.
A 10-in-1 drive unit combines 10 powertrain functions into a single assembly, helping improve packaging and communication between the different systems.
Dimensions and Seating Options
The Hector Tomahawk measures 4,745mm long, 1,850mm wide and 1,770mm tall, with a wheelbase of 2,810mm. JSW MG claims the SUV is the tallest and among the longest models in its segment.
Buyers can choose between five-seat and seven-seat layouts. The five-seat version offers a claimed 610-litre boot, while the seven-seat model provides 528 litres with the third row folded.
Interior Features and Connected Technology
The cabin gets a 39.62cm HD touchscreen along with a 22.35cm digital instrument cluster. Other technology features include wireless Android Auto and Apple CarPlay, wireless smartphone charging and a 10-speaker Infinity audio system.
MG’s iSmart connected-car system offers more than 80 connected features and supports over 30 English voice commands.
Other notable equipment includes ventilated front seats, a memory function for the electrically adjustable driver’s seat, rear-window sunshades, 256-colour ambient lighting and a dual-pane panoramic sunroof.
The Jio-powered connected package adds a generative AI-based conversational assistant along with entertainment, regional content and music-streaming services.
Safety and ADAS Features
Safety equipment on the Hector Tomahawk includes a 360-degree camera, electronic stability control, traction control, hill-hold control, ABS with EBD and an electronic parking brake.
The SUV also gets Level 2 advanced driver-assistance systems with 11 functions, adding a range of driver-support features to the package.
Warranty and Ownership Benefits
JSW MG is offering the Hector Tomahawk EV with a lifetime warranty on the high-voltage battery. The EV also gets a three-year unlimited-kilometre vehicle warranty, three years of roadside assistance and two labour-free services. An assured buyback programme will also be available, although detailed eligibility conditions have not yet been disclosed.
