India Yamaha Motor has expanded its supersport motorcycle range with the launch of the new YZF-R2 in India. The motorcycle makes its global debut in the Indian market and brings Yamaha’s R-series styling and technology to the 200cc supersport category.
Prices for the Yamaha YZF-R2 start at Rs 2,30,500 (ex-showroom, Delhi). The motorcycle is available in three variants, with the middle variant priced at Rs 2,39,500 and the range-topping YZF-R2M carrying a price tag of Rs 2,53,000. These are introductory prices.

The YZF-R2 range is offered in five colour options: Metallic Black, Dark Bluish Gray, Matte White Pearl and Racing Blue. The YZF-R2M additionally gets an exclusive Metallic Gray finish.
Yamaha YZF-R2 Engine and Performance
Powering the new Yamaha YZF-R2 is a newly developed 204cc, liquid-cooled, single-cylinder, four-valve, DOHC petrol engine. The motor produces 26.5 PS of maximum power and 19.1 Nm of peak torque.
The engine is paired with a chassis designed to balance low weight with sporty handling. The motorcycle uses a high-tensile steel tube diamond frame, which weighs 14 kg. Overall kerb weight stands at 149 kg.
YZF-R2 Chassis and Hardware
Yamaha has equipped the YZF-R2 with a 37 mm upside-down front fork and a rear monoshock. Braking safety is supported by dual-channel ABS, while a traction control system adds another layer of electronic assistance.
The motorcycle also gets an assist and slipper clutch and 17-inch wheels. Yamaha Ride Control (YRC) provides three riding modes—Street, Sport and Rain—allowing riders to adapt the motorcycle’s characteristics to different riding conditions.

The YZF-R2M sits at the top of the new range and adds several premium components over the standard motorcycle. Its suspension setup is adjustable at both ends, with an adjustable front fork and rear damper.
The top-spec model also receives adjustable clutch and brake levers, a smart key system, a silver-finished swingarm and a faux-suede seat. These additions give the YZF-R2M a more premium and track-focused character.
