Mahindra has introduced the Thar OG as the latest evolution of its three-door SUV, bringing a new platform, revised suspension hardware, updated steering technology and additional equipment. Introductory ex-showroom prices start at Rs 10.32 lakh and go up to Rs 18.99 lakh, depending on the variant, engine and drivetrain.
New Platform Underpins the Updated Thar
The Thar OG moves to Mahindra’s M Glyde 4G platform, which has been engineered with greater chassis stiffness for improved performance during both everyday driving and off-road use. The SUV also receives a revised rear Pentalink suspension arrangement with a Watts link mechanism.
Steering, Braking and 4WD Hardware Get Upgrades
Electric power steering is now standard across the Thar OG range. Higher-specification four-wheel-drive versions add an electronic locking differential and selectable terrain modes for mud, sand and snow. Four-wheel disc brakes are also offered, with the braking and stability systems supported by Mahindra’s Electronic Stability Program 9.3 suite.
Three Engine Choices Continue
Mahindra continues with three engine options for the Thar OG. The 2.0-litre G20 TGDi mStallion turbo-petrol produces 119 kW (162 PS) and 330 Nm. The 2.2-litre D22 mHawk diesel develops 111.9 kW (152 PS) and 330 Nm. The 1.5-litre D117 CRDe diesel, offered only with rear-wheel drive and a manual gearbox, produces 87.2 kW (119 PS) and 300 Nm.
Manual and Automatic Gearboxes Available
Transmission choices include six-speed manual and six-speed torque-converter automatic gearboxes, with availability depending on the engine, variant and drivetrain configuration.
A Sharper Exterior Gives the Thar OG a Fresh Identity
The updated SUV features a redesigned front end with circular LED headlamps and C-shaped daytime running lights. Mahindra has also revised the front and rear bumpers, increased the track width and added LED ice-cube fog lamps with cornering illumination. The rear gets revised LED tail-lamps, while higher variants are equipped with 19-inch alloy wheels.
More Technology and Comfort Inside the Cabin
Inside, the Thar OG gets truffle brown leatherette upholstery along with a 26.03 cm high-definition infotainment touchscreen featuring smartphone mirroring. Other additions include a digital multi-information display, rear air-conditioning vents, wireless charging and front and rear parking sensors.
Six Airbags and Expanded Safety Equipment
The Thar OG is equipped with six airbags, including protection for the head, pelvis, thorax and shoulder areas. The higher-specification 4WD versions also receive the electronic locking differential, while the braking and stability package includes Electronic Stability Program 9.3.

Thar OG Variant and Price Range
The Thar OG is available in AXT, LXT and ZXT trims. The AXT range begins at Rs 10.32 lakh with the rear-wheel-drive 1.5-litre diesel manual. LXT prices range from Rs 12.99 lakh for the 1.5-litre diesel manual RWD to Rs 18.00 lakh for the 2.2-litre diesel automatic 4WD. Petrol LXT variants are priced between Rs 14.77 lakh and Rs 17.23 lakh.
The ZXT range starts at Rs 13.99 lakh for the RWD diesel manual and extends to Rs 18.99 lakh for the 2.2-litre diesel automatic 4WD. ZXT petrol variants are priced between Rs 16.09 lakh and Rs 17.75 lakh.
