Mahindra’s XEV 9e and BE 6e Electric SUVs Break Records with 30,179 Bookings on Day One

Mahindra & Mahindra had kick-started operations recently to build an electric vehicle (EV) market with the introduction of electric SUVs in the premium segment XEV 9e and BE 6e. On November 26, 2024, during the inaugural at Chennai, these models could strategically cater to the increasing demand for high-performance electric vehicles in India.

Thus, the market’s reception has been on the higher side. According to the company, bookings on the very first day achieved a wonderful record of 30,179 for XEV 9e and BE 6e, the potential sales amounts to ₹ 8,472 crores at ex-showroom prices. This figure is quite impressive, considering the fact that there were about 1 lakh electric passenger cars sold in 2024 in all India. XEV 9e got 56% of the booking narrowly ahead of BE 6e which took the 44%. Notably, 73% chose the top-end Pack Three variant which has a battery capacity of 79 kWh, suggesting that customers prefer long distance travel along with premium features.

Product Highlights

Both models are built on Mahindra’s advanced “INGLO” platform, a modular and scalable electric architecture designed to meet global standards. This platform emphasizes safety, high performance, and efficiency. The XEV 9e boasts a coupe-inspired design with futuristic triangular headlamps and a full-width LED DRL at the front, while the BE 6e features a cab-forward design with signature C-shaped LED DRLs. Both vehicles offer two battery options-a 59 kWh and a 79 kWh utilizing lithium iron phosphate (LFP) technology. They are capable of charging from 20% to 80% in just 20 minutes using a 175 kW DC fast charger. Performance-wise, both deliver 227 bhp and 380 Nm of peak torque, with the BE 6e offering a claimed range of up to 682 km.

Market Positioning

Mahindra has accordingly priced these under the affordable range to attract a wider consumer audience. Entry level BE 6e is priced at ₹ 18.90 lakh while the starting price of XEV 9e is ₹ 21.90 lakh ex-showroom. The Pack Three variant of vehicles is expected to commence deliveries in March 2025 and will be followed the other variants in the next months.
