Test runs for the new Amaze start today; deliveries will formally start next month.
Launched in India, the all-new Honda Amaze small sedan features beginning prices ranging from Rs. 8.00 lakh, rising to Rs 10.90 lakh (ex-showroom, India) for the top-spec ZX trim. Arriving hot in the footsteps of the just introduced fourth-generation Maruti Dzire, the Amaze is in its third generation.
New Honda Amaze keeps running with a 1.2-liter gasoline engine running 90 hp. Gets a fresh 8-inch touchscreen with Honda Sensing ADAS technologies.
The new Amaze boasts fresh interiors with loads more features and a completely new design inspired the family appearance observed on the Elevate and City. Still, it stays mechanically exactly as its predecessor. Delivery officially starts next month; test drives for the new Amaze start today. Standard with the Amaze is Honda offering a 3-year/unlimited mile warranty.
Fresh Honda Amaze outside design
The front aspect of the new Amaze resembles a hunched-down, reduced form of the Elevate SUV. Actually, the redesigned headlamps with the brow-like LED daytime running lamps headed a sleek chrome trim seem exactly like the Elevate. Though it is shallower and sharper than the SUV, the Amaze also gets a hexagonal grille. Though they look more like those of the City, the fog lamp surrounds them and the central air dam on the well-sculpted bumper.
Profile-wise, the new Amaze appears far more crisp than its predecessor. Beginning on the edge of the headlamps, the strong character line runs all the length of the sedan. The wing mirrors have been moved from the pillar to the door, and the modern appearance of the 15-inch alloy wheel comes from its dual-tone design. The ratios also seem perfect, which is not very simple in the sub-four-metre class.
Once more, the rear gives the new Amaze the junior city aspect, with tail-lamps surrounding the number plate housing in a similar form. Reflectors set at either edge give the rear bumper a neat appearance. The new Amaze feels more grown than the departing sedan when she adopts this family aspect. Six exterior paint colors—Obsidian Blue Pearl, Radiant Red Metallic, Platinum White Pearl, Golden Brown Metallic, Meteoroid Gray Metallic and Lunar Silver Metallic—are available for the new Amaze.
New Honda Amaze interior and design
On the inside, the Elevate visibly influences the dashboard design. It borrows from the Elevate the HVAC controls, the semi-digital instrument cluster with a 7-inch MID, and the multi-function steering wheel; its 8-inch free-standing touchscreen is smaller. Additionally, exactly like the Elevate is the center console configuration, with two cup holders, USB ports, and a wireless charging station. One unusual feature here is a textured surface for the dashboard panel containing the AC vents. The dashboard finishes in two tones: black and beige with occasional silver touches.
Regarding equipment, the new Amaze has auto climate control, wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, a wireless charger, push button start/stop, three-point seat belts for all occupants, a rear seat arm rest, rear AC vents, and connected car features. LED projector headlights and fog lamps abound. Six airbags as standard, a lane watch camera, hill start aid, traction control, ESC and the Honda Sensing ADAS suite are among the safety elements. Honda says the most reasonably priced vehicle with an ADAS suite available in India is the Amaze. Still, it mostly overlooks a sunroof.
Honda claims better cabin space since the new Amaze is taller and wider than its predecessor. Its boot space is 424 liters. Honda also says their AC performance has been much enhanced for better cabin cooling.
New Honda Amaze engine with specs
Under the hood, the new Amaze runs the classic 1.2-lit, four-cylinder gasoline engine coupled to either a 5-speed manual or a CVT automatic transmission with paddle shifters. Though torque is somewhat reduced, the engine generates 90 hp and 110 Nm of torque, which makes it quite more potent than the Dzire. While the CVT automatic returns 19.46 kpl, Honda states a fuel efficiency of 18.65 kpl for the manual model.
New competitors for Honda Amaze
Still challenging the Maruti Dzire, Hyundai Aura, and Tata Tigor, the new Honda Amaze is the only small sedan without a factory-fitted CNG engine. The majority of sales in the small sedan category come from CNG, which also accounts for over 80 per cent in the case of the Aura and more than 50 per cent of Dzire’s sales.
