Royal Enfield has launched the new Himalayan 440 in India at an introductory price of Rs 2,29,000 (ex-showroom). Bookings opened on September 4, 2026, through Royal Enfield dealerships and the company’s online channels. The motorcycle brings back the familiar, rugged Himalayan 411-inspired package while introducing a 443cc long-stroke engine, a six-speed gearbox and updated chassis, suspension and braking hardware.
New 443cc Engine and Six-Speed Gearbox
The Himalayan 440 is powered by a 443cc, single-cylinder, air-cooled, fuel-injected long-stroke engine. It develops 25.4 bhp at 6,250 rpm and 34 Nm of peak torque at 4,000 rpm, with power sent to the rear wheel through a six-speed gearbox. Royal Enfield has also focused on improving noise, vibration and harshness (NVH) levels, while the long-stroke configuration is aimed at delivering strong, usable torque across the rev range.
Adventure-Focused Chassis and Suspension
The motorcycle retains the Himalayan’s half-duplex split-cradle frame layout. Suspension duties are handled by 41mm telescopic front forks with 200mm of travel and a linkage-type rear monoshock offering 180mm of travel. The combination is designed to provide the ground clearance and suspension travel required for broken roads, trails and long-distance adventure touring.
21-Inch Front Wheel and Switchable ABS
The Himalayan 440 rides on a 21-inch front and 17-inch rear wire-spoke wheel combination. Braking is handled by a 300mm front disc with a two-piston floating caliper and a 240mm rear disc. The motorcycle gets switchable dual-channel ABS, allowing riders greater control when riding on loose surfaces.
Features and Touring Equipment
Equipment includes an LED headlamp, a digital-analogue instrument cluster, Tripper turn-by-turn navigation and a USB Type-C charging port. The motorcycle also gets a 15-litre fuel tank, making it suited to longer touring routes. Its 800mm unladen seat height and 220mm ground clearance are intended to balance accessibility with off-road capability.
Colours and Anniversary Edition Details
The Himalayan 440 is offered in three colour options: Sela Black, Mustang Brown and Nelong White. The first production units will carry a 10-year anniversary emblem on the fuel tank, marking a decade of the Himalayan nameplate.
A Decade of the Himalayan
The Himalayan 440 arrives as Royal Enfield celebrates 10 years of the Himalayan badge. According to the company, cumulative global sales across the original Himalayan 411 and the liquid-cooled Himalayan 450, introduced in 2023, have crossed 3.2 lakh units.
