A new record has been set the 1954 Mercedes-Benz W196 R Stromlinienwagen that has been auctioned for €51 million. With the auction held in the Mercedes-Benz Museum in Stuttgart, Germany, RM Sothe.
The car has been driven Juan Manuel Fangio and Sir Stirling Moss who were once legends, the car’s auctioning leaves all the automobile lovers around the world shocked. Fangio has used the car for his victory in the 1955 Buenos Aires Grand Prix whereas Moss set the record of fastest lap at the 1955 Italian Grand Prix in Monza.
This legendary vehicle was famous for its factory-built streamlined bodywork and was one of the four. Showcasing its intricate and fascinating engineering during 1965, it featured a 2.5-litre straight-eight engine producing up to 290hp.
Setting a startling show of auction being more expensively sold than the Formula 1, the car was previously housed in the Indianapolis Motor Speedway Museum,but now finds itself with a new possessor who is yet to be named.
