Tesla Model Y

Tesla Model Y sales in India have surged after the electric SUV received a ₹9 lakh price cut, with the company recording its highest-ever monthly sales in the country in July 2026.

Tesla retailed 115 Model Y SUVs in India in July, according to Vahan data. The figure represents a 203 percent increase over the 38 units sold in June and marks a significant improvement over Tesla’s previous monthly high of 69 units.

The sales surge comes shortly after Tesla reduced the starting price of the Model Y to ₹50.89 lakh (ex-showroom) in June 2026.

Tesla Model Y Sales Surge After ₹9 Lakh Price Cut

The Model Y had a relatively slow start in the Indian market, with monthly sales remaining limited during its initial months. Tesla’s previous best monthly performance was 69 units, recorded in September and December 2025.

The situation changed following the company’s pricing strategy in June.

Tesla introduced the Model Y Premium Rear-Wheel Drive at ₹50.89 lakh, replacing the earlier entry-level model priced at ₹59.89 lakh. The ₹9 lakh reduction significantly lowered the entry price for Tesla ownership in India and placed the Model Y closer to established luxury EV rivals.

The July sales figures suggest that pricing has played an important role in improving the Model Y’s appeal among Indian buyers.

Tesla Model Y India Sales Cross 600 Units

Tesla’s cumulative sales have also crossed an important milestone.

Between the start of deliveries in September 2025 and July 2026, Tesla sold 578 vehicles in India. During the same period, the luxury electric passenger-vehicle segment recorded 6,825 sales, giving Tesla an approximately 8 percent share.

Tesla’s momentum continued into August. The company retailed 60 vehicles during the first 16 days of August, taking its cumulative Indian sales beyond the 600-unit mark.
