Officially unveiled ahead of its general release at the Bharat Mobility Show is the Hyundai Creta electric. From the ICE-powered SUV, most of the exterior and interior stay the same, but the ARAI-claimed range of 473 km is most of interest. Let us also closely review all other elements.
Two battery pack choices for the Creta electric will be 42kWh and 51.4kWh, respectively, returning accordingly an ARAI-claimed range of 390km and 473km. Though Hyundai claims the Creta Electric (long range) can sprint from 0 to 100 kph in 7.9 seconds, we do not yet have power or torque data. Like the Ioniq 5, other specifics so far known are that it will have three drive modes: Eco, Normal, and Sport, and that it has a steering column-mounted drive mode selection. It also incorporates single-pedal driving under Hyundai’s i-Pedal technology.
While the 11kW AC wall box charger can charge from 10 percent to 100 percent in 4 hours, Hyundai states the Creta Electric can charge from 10 percent to 80 percent in just 58 minutes (DC charging).
Hyundai Creta Electric features, inside and outside
Regarding design, Hyundai appears to have done nothing to set it apart from the ICE-powered Creta. Most body panels have been carried over exactly, and it just gets fresh soft plastic components. These comprise new sealed-off front grille looks, pixel-like detailing on the front and rear bumpers, and new aero-optimized alloy wheels. Actually, the Creta electric appears rather like the N Line model in the front bumper, with a more angular appearance. Some active aero flaps on the front bumper to support aerodynamic efficiency are a truly amazing new touch. Additionally noted was that the SUV’s nose houses the charging port.
Inside the Creta electric brings over the twin 10.25-inch screen display, but it also gets a new floating center console design and a new steering wheel seen on Kona sold overseas. Features-wise, it boasts an ADAS suite, 360-degree cameras, a panoramic sunroof, vehicle-to-load (V2L) technology, and Hyundai’s digital key function.
Hyundai Creta Electric colors and trims
With 8 monotone and 2 dual-tone color choices, including 3 Matte colors, the Creta Electric will be offered in 4 variants: Executive, Smart, Premium and Excellence. This covers the new ocean blue metallic with black roof shown here.
Hyundai Creta Electric contests
Directly challenging the Maruti e Vitara and the Mahindra BE 6 will be the Hyundai Creta Electric. But unlike both of these SUVs, which draw on a born-electric skateboard chassis, the Creta electric is an adaptation of an ICE platform. The e Vitara and BE 6 both have more choices for battery packs. It will also compete with the Tata Curvation EV. As we wait for the Creta electric to formally premiere at the Bharat Mobility Show, keep tuned to Autocar India for more information on it.
