Mahindra Scorpio

In 2021, Prashant Shevade, a Pune-based man from Maharashtra, took to his latest automotive conquest: the Mahindra Scorpio. Assigning the merit of a jury on mileage, he was drawn its solid design and a watchful directorial experience. His decision was further influenced his consideration of the historic reputation Scorpio enjoyed in the Indian SUV market.

Exterior and Design

The 2021 Mahindra Scorpio looks mighty and aggressive when one considers its square body with an intimidating front fascia and a pronounced hood scoop. The 17-inch alloy wheels, kitted with 235/65 R17 all-terrain tires, add to its hominess and assurance of stability on different terrains. The sculpture amazed Prashant with its outgoing presence, one of its own in a dominant fashion on the road, while also standing out in city traffic.

Interior Acclimatization and Features

Once you step into the Scorpio: interior-wise, it is spacious and is paired in black and dark brown. The front row seats give good support and thus are comfortable for long drives. The second row has three-passenger capacity but, according to Prashant, would benefit from more legroom. The third row jump seats are only for short trips and can serve children best for long rides given their inability to stretch when seated because of little legroom.

Some of its other features include automatic climate control, a touchscreen infotainment system with Bluetooth connectivity, and steering-mounted controls on the steering wheel. But Prashant mentioned that features like airbags, automatic climate control, and height adjustment of the seats could only make driving more pleasurable.

Performance and Driving Experience

What powers the Scorpio heart is a 2.2-liter mHawk turbocharged diesel engine that produces 140 bhp and 320 Nm of torque. The engine is mated to a six-speed manual transmission and enjoys a fine proclivity for delivering compact little performances. The SUV appealed to Prashant while shuttling around the city as it required minimal gear shifts forgoing the Extinguisher and Fuhrers. The SUV was found to be an exceptional vehicle for commuting through the city with very few shifts needed in view of its low-end torque. The Scorpio travels comfortably between destinations and has got to be a little noisy while driving above 90 km/h on highways.

Ride quality is improved since the previous generation is better at taking the bumps out of the road but Prashant pointed out how the larger vehicle rolls quite a bit during fast turns because of its elevated center of gravity. Compared to before, and while light, the steering doesn’t give good feedback forcing one to be a bit cautious, primarily at higher speeds.

Fuel Efficiency

On the fuel consumption front, Prashant saw an average of about 9.5 km/l in the city and 13 km/l on the highway. For a vehicle of that size and capability, those are fair numbers; he believes that one can work to improve the figures just a little bit more for urban everyday use.

Prashant has now reflected on his ownership experience, describing the 2021 Mahindra Scorpio as a dependable, sturdy friend for city driving and long, pleasurable trips. Its commanding presence, roomy interiors, and formidable performance fit into his definition of a traditional SUV. As there are still aspects that could exploit some modernization, the Scorpio remains craved for its ruggedness tempered with practicality for those wanting their vehicle to double as a rugged beast and a mean, comfy machine.
